Our Approach

Learning in the Moment

At our playgroup, we are proud to follow the teaching of Anna Ephgrave’s Planning In The Moment, a child-led approach in which practitioners observe, listen and respond spontaneously to a child’s emerging interests in order to extend their learning. We know that the best learning happens when children are truly engaged, that is why our play is guided by the child’s natural curiosity. Our skilled practitioners will support your child to create meaningful learning experiences in the moment.

The Outdoors at the Heart

Nature is our classroom. We take care in designing our outdoor space to allow for endless opportunities to explore, climb, dig, create and imagine. We regularly use the beautiful Horsley Playing Fields and Play Area, providing opportunities for physical development and outdoor discovery. Our Forest School sessions, led by Natalie, our Forest School Teacher, offer magical experiences throughout the seasons, helping children develop resilience, confidence, and a lifelong love of the natural world.

Resources that Inspire

We carefully choose every resource – indoors and outdoors – to spark imagination, nurture creativity, and support children’s development. Our play environment is full of open-ended materials, natural treasures, and inviting spaces that encourage children to experiment, problem-solve, and grow. We also provide a dedicated art input each week, giving children time to explore crafts, get creative, and express themselves freely.

A Rich and Varied Learning Environment

Children can immerse themselves in role play, sensory activities, construction, and plenty of opportunities for imaginative exploration. Our free-flow setup allows children to move between indoor and outdoor spaces, giving them the freedom to follow their interests and learn in the way that suits them best.

Preparing for School

We work closely with the primary school to support a smooth, confident transition into Reception. Through shared routines, strong relationships, and thoughtful preparation, we help children feel ready, secure, and excited for their next step.

A True Partnership with Parents

We understand how important it is for you to feel connected to your child’s day. That’s why we use Tapestry to share secure updates on their progress. You’ll receive photos, videos, and a weekly roundup so you always know what your child has been exploring and enjoying. Open, warm communication is at the heart of everything we do.

We celebrate achievements – big and small – together, and we’re always here to listen. Our open-door approach means your voice is valued just as much as your child’s, and we work in partnership with you every step of the way.
